On 29th November 2017, the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi drove to the school at the invitation of the US International University (USIU) and organized a Chinese cultural experience.

After the host introduced USIU's Chinese language learning and club situation, USIU students performed for us poetry recitals and Chinese songs

Later, a volunteer teacher and student Tonny from the University of Nairobi performed a kongfu show, that ushered in applause  another students from CIOUN student Daiqian presented a traditional Chinese dance”caiwei” Its gentle and graceful dance attracted the attention of the students. Afterwards, the host warmly introduced the team from the Confucius Institute and started the cultural experience.

The four cultural experience booths were paper-cut, calligraphy, painting lianpu and folder beans. At the calligraphy booth, students learned about the four treasures of Chinese literature and tried how to write Chinese characters with brush. At the paper-cutting booth, everyone cut out beautiful flowers, and some even put the small flowers on their heads as hair accessories. Bean booth, they learnt to take chopsticks and try to pick up a grain of beans at the fastest speed this was lots of fun; in the lianpu booth, we paint a variety of lianpu , very popular with students . After the end of the experience, they took a group photo with their own achievements.

This activity enhanced the students' interest in learning Chinese. The students who dared not speak their Chinese worked hard to communicate with volunteer teachers. Both the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi and the staff of the USIU hope that more such cultural activities will be conducted in the future so that more students can experience the diversity and interest of Chinese culture and let everyone fall in love with Chinese.
