On October 21st, 2017, educators’ delegation of Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi went back to Kenya after a 10-day visit to China. The delegation included educators from the University of Nairobi and Chinese language learners from Immigration and KRA.

The delegation experienced a lot of Chinese culture during the visit in China. The experience which impressed members the most is the process of making mooncakes. The session teacher gave a brief introduction on the origin of mooncakes and the cultural implication they have on the Mid-Autumn Festival. She further guided the members how to make their own mooncakes, an activity they enjoyed undertaking and even took photos with their own mooncakes for rememberance. The experience class ended with eating the tasty mooncakes.

Besides making the mooncakes, the members visited the Nankai Middle School affiliated to Tianjin Normal University. Here the members learnt the basic education system, cultivation and demand of talents of China.. At the end of the session, the members gave an oil painting with some Kenyan wildlife as a present to the teachers and students of the Nankai Middle School. The teachers and students also gave paintings and Chinese calligraphy works of their own as presents to the members.

The members also visited the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, the National Museum of China and the Tianjin Museum, which deepened the understanding of Chinese culture of the members.

As the first Confucius Institute in Kenya, Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi has always been committed to the success  of cultural exchange, economy and education between China and Kenya and has also made a lot of efforts. In the future, Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi will continue to work hard to contribute to the friendship between China and Kenya. Last but not least, we hope the members can tell their friends what they have seen, heard and experienced in China to influence more Kenyans to visit China and Chinese culture.
