Kenya-China Dancing Together for the New Year

Mr. Yao Ming, Counselor of Chinese Embassy and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affair), Prof. Mutoro were invited to give some remarks for the event. Besides, Mr. Liu Ning, Representative of the United Nations Environment Programme, directors of China Radio International and Kenya overseas Chinese Federation, Prof. Njeru, Principle of CHSS, Prof. Ngau, Principal of College of Engineering and Architecture, Prof. Wasambar, Dean FOA and prof. Isaa, Dean FOA of Kabianga University, together with students from Alliance Girl, Alliance Boy, Loreto Limuru and Maryhill Girl were also invited to the function.


After the opening ceremony with the lion dance, a lot of wonderful performances, including Chinese songs, modern and traditional Chinese dances were given by the students from Chinese Choir, Chinese Dance Club and Chinese Lion and Dragon Dance Club in Confucius Institute. The institute also held some Culture Activities, such as making Dumpling, Chinese Calligraphy, Drawing Opera Mask and Chinese Language experiencing class, which attracted many students to join.


The Function was a great success. It was reported on CCTV New at noon time the next day. Kenya people not only know about Chinese New Year through the function, but also experiencing the culture personally, which promotes the understanding and friendship between the two countries, just as what President Uhuru said in his Chinese New Year greeting on 4th February.
