The 15th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students

On May 23, the 15th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students was held at the University of Nairobi Main Campus. Kenya division auditions was organized by the Embassy of the people’s republic of China in conjunction with the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi (CIUON). Contestants were from Confucius Institute from the University of Nairobi, Egerton University Confucius Institute, The Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University, The Confucius Institute at Moi University and Nairobi broadcast Confucius Classroom. The theme of the competitions was "Dreams Enlighten the future", and it was divided into three parts: Chinese speech, cultural knowledge quiz and Chinese talent show.

The panel of judges was made up of ten members include Counselor of Chinese Embassy Mr. Yao Ming, who was also the chairman of the panel of judges; General director of Xinhua News Agency of Africa Regional Bureau Mr. Yuan Bingzhong, Director of China Daily Africa Mr. Pan Zhongming, Kenya-China Alumni Association Mr. Lin Yong,and  others.  Our university’s Vice Chancellorer Prof. Mbithi was represented by Prof. Jane Mariara, DVC Academic Affairs Prof. Mutoro;DVC student affairs Prof. Mbeche, Principal CHSS Prof. Njeru;Associate Dean faculty of arts Prof. Rayya, and Prof. Kithaka were our guests who has graced this competition. 

Prof. Njeru Principal of CHSS at University of Nairobi gave his remarks; He praised the achievements of Chinese promotion, and encouraged students to continue their efforts to learn Chinese and encouraged friendly relations between China and Kenya for the development of Kenya. 

Students from our institute Jin Ruoxi who gave a speech: ‘Chinese lit up   the road to her dream’. Her speech won everyone's approval and her Chinese talent show left a deep impression on us. So she won the “The best speech” and the champion.

Also from our Confucius Institute Ma Aili and Ya Yan. Ma Aili’s speech ‘like lovers talking’. Whose talent show combines China and western countries. Ya Yan’s speech was ‘another style like an oath’. Her talent show was so vivid. These two brilliant girls share the second position. The best talent performance goes to Ke Lin who is from the Confucius Institute at Moi University.

Finally, Mr. Yao gave a speech. He congratulated the winners and encouraged students to study Chinese hard, for the development of Kenya. And wish China and Kenya friendship lasts forever. This year’s "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition not only covers the four Confucius Institutes and Confucius classroom but it also attracted various schools and a number of media houses.
Like Prof. Mutoro said: Competition is not only exciting but also beautiful. We had a wonderful afternoon; we enjoyed a bright Chinese Bridge.
