The Department of Confucius on 4th November 2016 Launched Chinese Language course for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  On his welcoming speech Prof.Mutoro, DVC Academic Affairs thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Government of China for support and establishment of China Center at the University of Nairobi. He noted that China Government has also funded the development of the new prestigious University Tower, said that once the Tower gets completed, the Confucius Institute will occupy two floors to set the only China Centre in Africa at the University of Nairobi.

Speaking on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Simon Nabukwesi said that the Ministry would support the Higher Institution of Learning in offering language programs especially the Chinese Language Course He noted that the Ministry would be sponsoring UoN students for an exchange program to China that will be a competent process and only the best will qualify.

On His remarks by Chinese Ambassador to Kenya; Amb. (Dr) Liu Xianfa he applauded Kenyan Government and the University of Nairobi for the good relationship and said that relationship had achieved unprecedented historical heights bringing along more and more tangible benefits to people of both countries. He noted that the Mutual and pragmatic cooperation had enabled China and Kenya to achieve new breakthroughs, such as Chinese investment in Kenya and Kenya-China trade that  keep  on expanding  which have yielded fruits.

The Chinese Ambassador to Kenya said that next week 30 Kenyan Diplomats from various departments of Ministry of Foreign Affairs will start their Chinese Language Courses for four months. He noted that this opportunity would enable Kenyan diplomats to have a deeper understanding of Chinese Language and culture that will allow Chinese Diplomats to push forward the China-Kenya comprehensive cooperative partnership.

Present at the launch included the Director of Public Relations, Mr.Kinywa-Director Advancement, Chair Department of Confucius - Prof. Guo Hong and Chair Department of Linguistics - Dr.Oduor Jane Akinyi among others.
