On November 30 2016, the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi held a meeting between Chinese companies and college graduates in the main campus. There were 20 Chinese companies including CCTV Africa ,CCS(Kenya)Limited, China Railway 21st Bureau Group co.,Ltd, Shanxi Geological Engineering Exploration Institute, Newx, CCFC, China Wuyi Construction, Sinohydio Group Ltd and China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Cooperation just to mention a few.
Before the start of the meeting, graduates had come with their resumes and certificates; they were ready to find jobs from the companies which were also ready to employ qualified graduates. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, Prof. Peter Mbithi and Mr. Guo Ce the economic counselor of the People's Republic of China embassy in the republic of Kenya, gave the opening remarks. In his remarks Prof. Mbithi said that the meeting provided a great plat form for the graduates to meet with potential employers, and provide a lot of job opportunities, he applauded the efforts of the Confucius Institute for the initiative and said that the University of Nairobi supports such initiatives, and hope we can have more chances to hold such activities at the university of Nairobi. Mr. Guo Ce congratulated the Confucius institute for bringing together the 20 companies indicating that it is not an easy task. He said that among the 20 Chinese enterprises, there are over 500 job opportunities for the graduates in different fields and professions, and that this will go a milestone in solving the unemployment problems in Kenya and it will promote the mutual development of China and Kenya's economy, at the same time hope the graduates to find suitable jobs.
The Vice Chancellor and the Commercial counselor also had a chance to visit the companies’ stands and also have discussion with the graduates in different stands. Many students said they loved this meeting, there are a lot of job opportunities, and they said the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi held the meeting had great significance to them.
