Training/induction of Chinese Volunteer Teachers

On September 11th 2016,Confucius Institute at University of Nairobi held a meeting with volunteer teachers from Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters) to induct them on various teaching activities. The  meeting was attended by the Director Confucius Institute,  Prof. Guo Hong, Dr. Jane Oduor, the Chairperson Department of Linguistics and Languages, Mrs. Xu Jing one of the Chinese language lecturers. Also in attendance was Mr. Henry Kinyua a masters student at the Tianjin Normal University, China who is undertaking internship in teaching Chinese language.  This kind of meeting is held every year whenever the Institute receives new volunteer teachers and interns from China to help them adapt to the new environment.
 
 Dr. Jane Oduor opened the meeting by warmly welcoming the volunteer teachers and the intern after which she asked them to introduce themselves briefly. She then took them through the steps of becoming a good teacher in many aspects including efficiency, creating a good teaching environment, how to do research, class management among others. Dr. Oduor also shared her experience of leaning Chinese. The students gained more knowledge and skills on how to teach through the meeting. Prof. Guo gave a vote of thanks and wished  the intern and the volunteer teachers best of luck in their work and happy stay in Kenya.
