On December 20th, 2017, Job Fair for Kenyan Students in 2017 Held at Confucius Institute at University of Nairobi was successfully held on the campus of University of Nairobi. The job fair was sponsored by the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, and co-organized by the Kenya-China Business Association and the Kenya Chinese Chamber of Commerce. It aims to transport professional talents to Chinese enterprises in Kenya, and to provide job opportunities for recent graduates and former graduates of various universities in Kenya, and has received positive responses and support from major Kenyan companies.

More than 50 companies participated in the job fair and provided thousands of jobs. Each company received more than 2,200 resumes. In his speech, President Mbithi expressed his welcome to the companies present. He thanked the Chinese Embassy in Kenya for their support for the event and said to the students who were on the job seeking that the Confucius Institute offered us this job fair. Young people are the future of Kenya. Chinese companies provide such opportunities for young people. Li Xuhang pointed out that the relationship between China and Kenya has now entered the best period in history.

Every year, Chinese companies create more than 12 million jobs in Kenya. He hopes that Chinese companies will find out from these outstanding students their own needs. The talents give young people an opportunity to grow young people at work because their growth will drive the prosperity of the company. Elizabeth, the first female train driver of SGR, and she once was a student at the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, got the job at last year’s job fair. She shared her experience working in a Chinese company. Finally, Ms. Beatrice, Speaker of the Nairobi County Conference, and Professor Mbeche, Director of the University of Nasional Confucius Institute of Foreign Affairs once again expressed their gratitude to the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, the companies providing this opportunity, and the Chinese Embassy in Kenya. They have proposed one after another and hope to host such a large-scale job fair every year in the future.

Since its inception, the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi has been focusing on Chinese language teaching. It attaches great importance to the development of students’ communicative competence. At the same time, as the first Confucius Institute in Kenya and the Global Model Confucius Institute, the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi also serves local people. They must contribute to the economic and cultural exchange between China and Kenya. In November 2016, we successfully hosted the first university student recruitment conference in Kenya, which has aroused great repercussions. This year, at the request of various companies and students, we will again hold a college job fair. Among the more than 50 companies in this recruitment fair, China Road and Bridge cooperation, China Railway Tenth Group Co., Ltd., China Wuyi Industrial Co., Ltd., China Aviation Technology International Engineering Co., Ltd....etc. Kenyan local companies such as Kens Plastic and NCIA were involved. At the same time, the Chinese Embassy in Kenya also participated in the recruitment fair. Students who come to work to find job opportunities are from various colleges and universities in Kenya. The atmosphere of the job fair was unprecedentedly hot and the resumes were delivered in more than 2,000 copies. I believe many students will find their favorite jobs here.

The successful completion of this job fair has increasingly strengthened the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi. In the days to come, the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi will continue to create opportunities for businesses and students to provide more communication platforms so that students can truly apply what they have learned and allow them to get real talent.
