It was Feb. 20th, local time. Happy talks and laughter could be heard outside the Cultural Experiencing Center on the 7the floor of the Confucius Institute of the University of Nairobi. About 30 members of the Staff HSK I class were having a good time getting to know the Chinese customs during Spring Festival.

Members of the class showed great interest in what they were doing and they are really quick learners. With the help of the teachers, members of the class created paper-cutting of all styles.

The Staff HSK I project has been going on for several years with its participants from different departments and colleges. The members share one common goal---to learn Chinese and Chinese culture, and to go to China in the near future. One of the members, Eic Otieno, said he liked this way of learning the language together with culture, which helped deepen his understanding of the Chinese lunar new year.

Spring Festival is one of the most important festivals in China, which is also well-known in Kenya. Letting more people know about and experience Chinese tradition and custom is the very task of every teacher of the Confucius Institute of the University of Nairobi. And we have been trying hard to achieve such a goal.
