Teachers and Students of The Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi warmly welcome Ambassador Sun Baohong on taking up her new post

On July 9th 2018, the Chinese Embassy in Kenya held a reception for Ambassador Sun Baohong's arrival. The Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Transportation, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Mr. James Wainaina Macharia, Chief Administrative Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Mr. Ababu Namwamba, The ruling Jubilee party vice-chairman David Murathe amongst other government representatives, representatives of various countries' diplomatic missions in Kenya and representatives of overseas Chinese interests attended the reception. Professor Peter Mbithi, Vice Chancellor of The University of Nairobi, staff and students of Confucius Institute at The University of Nairobi also attended the reception.

Students from the choir and Kung-fu club of The Confucius Institute presented various breathtaking performances for the reception. The Chinese choir performed a four-part chorus without music accompaniment, Chen Andong's Tai'chi dance and Zhang Meiling's solo " my motherland and me" at the reception, which was highly praised by the guests .

Professor Mbithi had a cordial discussion with Ambassador Sun Baohong and specifically invited Ambassador Sun to visit the University, including the Confucius Institute. At the same time, he expressed that for many years, with the help of the Chinese embassy in Kenya, the University of Nairobi's teachers and students were able to carry out in-depth cooperation with Chinese Universities in academic exchanges, visits and collaboration.
