The 2020 Chinese Spring Festival, which kicked off on Monday and ends on February 2nd, is a ten-day event that has been organized by Two Rivers in partnership with the Chinese Embassy, Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi and the Erdemann Chinese Culture School.

At the opening ceremony, Zhuo Bingyan, a volunteer teacher at the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, performed a flute solo "Ranger" and received commendations.

Counselor Wang Xuezheng remarked in his speech that such cultural events are essential to show China's long-standing traditional culture. There are many customs in the Lunar New Year, which all reflect the Chinese people's desire to love life and pursue a better life. This event will also play a role in strengthening China-Kenya relations. Mr. Theodoros, general manager of Two Rivers Shopping Mall, said that the Chinese Spring Festival celebration accords a chance to Kenyans to experience rich traditional Chinese culture and make the Chinese in Kenya feel at home.

CIUON has fully prepared for the Spring Festival by not only exhibiting Chinese calligraphy and painting works, Chinese national costumes, but also invited guests from both China and Kenya to experience writing Spring Festival couplets and blessings. Teachers from CIUON also gave an account of the folk culture of Chinese Spring Festival. There was a continuous stream of people coming to experience Chinese traditional culture, and everyone expressed great interest in Chinese Spring Festival culture. After trying on Chinese national costumes, people actively communicated with volunteer teachers, hoping to learn more about the meaning of traditional costumes and Chinese history and culture.

During Spring Festival Gala in the evening, teachers and students of CIUON presented an audio-visual feast to the guests. The dance troupe brought "Chinese Beauty" and "Retro disco". The beautiful dance accompanied the cheerful rhythm and won unanimous applause. The "Eight Methods and Five Steps" of the Kung Fu Club was firm, flexible, and agile. And the choir performed many beautiful a cappella songs including "My Motherland", "Good Days" and "Guests Afar”. The guests at the scene gave warm applause and took out their mobile phones to take pictures, to keep these beautiful moments.

Director Xiao Shan of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi said that the Spring Festival celebration will end on February 2nd and it will last for10 days. The purpose of the event is for Chinese people and Kenyan people to experience the traditional Chinese culture together and immerse everyone in the joy of the Chinese New Year.
