Welcome to the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi (CIUON)! As director of the institute, I am pleased to have you as students in our Chinese programmes and members of our multicultural team.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi is the first institution of its kind ever established in Africa. It has been awarded the title of “the Excellent Confucius Institute” for seven times, and it is also ‘the Model Confucius Institute’. With the advanced teaching equipment and the spacious classrooms, we provide students with first-class Chinese education experience.

Over the past few years, the Institute has multiplied its efforts to offer quality training courses, Diploma, and Bachelor’s degree programme. Thus, it has continued to progress and to extend its impact while reinforcing its relations with its partners. I would like to express the pride I feel as director of the Institute. I would also like to express my determination to transform the Institute for the better. I wish to underscore the engagement and the remarkable work that the Institute’s staff is carrying out with great professionalism and devotion. I also wish to thank the Vice-Chancellor, University Management Board and the Senate for their guidance and support, which have allowed us to take up new challenges everyday.
