On June 24th, 2022, the 21st Chinese Bridge - Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students Kenya Division Preliminary Rounds was held at the University of Nairobi. A total of 15 contestants from four Confucius Institutes in Kenya participated in the competition.
The competition was hosted by Center for Language Education and Cooperation and organized by Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Kenya and Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi.
The theme of this year is One World One Family. There were two parts of the competition: Chinese Speech and Q&A Session and Chinese Talent Show. Contestants told their sincere stories with fluent Chinese, and demonstrated their love for Chinese culture with wonderful performances.
Zhao Xiyuan, minister counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, said that the Chinese language proficiency contest provided a platform for fostering China-Kenya cultural ties and friendship, adding that language and culture remain key building blocks of bilateral cooperation.
Prof. Stephen Kiama, vice chancellor at the University of Nairobi, said that the Chinese language has gained traction among young Kenyans and would offer more career opportunities.
Known as the Olympics of the international Chinese education, the Chinese Bridge is an important platform for learning Chinese and knowing about China. Chinese Bridge has crossed cultural differences, and closely linked the world with the charm of Chinese culture and language.
The competition attracted all parts of society attended, and multiple Chinese and foreign media reported the event. See links from various media houses.
