Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi holds Career Fair 2019

On December 5th, 2019, local time in Kenya, the Dreaming the Youth, Creating the future Career Fair 2019 was successfully held at the main campus of the University of Nairobi.

 

On December 5th, 2019, local time in Kenya, the Dreaming the Youth, Creating the future Career Fair 2019 was successfully held at the main campus of the University of Nairobi. Mr. Zhao Xiyuan, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, and Mr. Johnson, Director of the Employment Service Office of the University of Nairobi, and other guests attended the opening ceremony of the career fair and delivered speeches. A total of 32 Kenyan companies and 19 Chinese companies participated in the campus job fair this year.

Counsellor Zhao Xiyuan said in his speech that there are an average of 360 local employees in each Chinese-funded company in Kenya. This career fair provides a good platform for companies and students to communicate. I hope that students can find jobs as they wish and show their talents, he hopes that all companies can find outstanding talents to achieve win-win situation.

The career fair has received positive response and support from major companies in both China and Kenya. More than 50 Chinese and Kenyan companies participated in the event. Large Chinese-funded enterprises such as China Civil Engineering Constuction Corporation (Kenya) Limited, China Wu Yi Co.,Ltd, and Sinohydro  Corporation Engineering Bureau 15. Limited. And also have well-known enterprises and institutions such as StarTimes Media (Kenya) LTD, Housemart Co Limited, Smant Co., Ltd. College students looking for job opportunities on site came from various universities in Kenya. The career fair was unprecedentedly very well attended, and more than 2,600 resumes were submitted.

Ms. Xu Jing, a local Chinese teacher at the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, addressed the opening ceremony on behalf of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi. She said that this career fair is the 3rd career fair hosted by the Confucius Institute of the University of Nairobi. But this year is different from previous career fairs. It is a joint effort with the Employment Service Office of the University of Nairobi to jointly undertake this meaningful event. I hope that through this career fair, students can practice what they have learned, and let companies find available talents. Schools and enterprises will work together to achieve a win-win situation.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi with the graduation season of the University of Nairobi, has held career fair every December since 2017. This event not only improves the social influence of the Confucius Institute, but also improves the attention of the students. The Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi not only teaches Chinese to students, but also creates opportunities to help students go to society. The Career Fair meets the needs of enterprises for different talents, improves the employment number of previous and new graduates in Kenya, and contributes to the national construction of Kenya.
