Members of the delegation included Mr. Chen Qi, President of Modern Education Press, Mr. Liu Zhong, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of China Publishing and Media Holdings Co.Ltd, Mr. Chen Xiaowen, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Commercial Press, and Mr. Chang Shaomin, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of SDX Joint Publishing Company, and Ms. Lin Liying, Deputy General Manager of China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Corporation.
Prof. Isaac M. Mbeche, Acting vice chancellor of the University of Nairobi and Local Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, hosted the China Publishing Group delegation in the Vice Chancellor’s boarding room. Prof. Mbeche expressed warm welcome to the delegation of China Publishing Group. He indicated that the arrival of the delegation will further promote the development of Chinese language teaching at the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, and the entire University of Nairobi society. Due to the large number of college students at the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, he is urged the China Publishing Group to promote the publication of Chinese textbooks. At the same time, Professor Mbeche specifically pointed out that if the China Publishing Group has related issues and needs, the University of Nairobi will provide corresponding assistance to promote cooperation between the two sides.
On his part, Mr. Tan Yue, President of China Publishing Group, expressed his gratitude to Prof. Mbeche for his warm welcome and cooperation. He noted that the two sides have the same purpose and hope to promote Chinese teaching and the cooperation through mutual understanding and further exchanges. Mr. Tan noted that the meeting marked an important beginning. The head of the University of Nairobi Publishing Group, the Director of the Office of Foreign Cooperation of the University of Nairobi and the Director of the Office of the President of the University of Nairobi delivered their remarks, saying that under the influence of the Chinese fever and the friendly relationship between China and Kenya, it is also very important to promote Chinese textbooks. While Kenya's local printing technology is relatively not as advance as that of China, China Publishing Group could offer assistance to the Nairobi University Press to publish high-quality books.
The delegation also visited the Cultural Experience Hall, the Language Room, the Conference Room, and the Library of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi. Under the leadership of Xiao Shan, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, the delegation learned about the history, personnel composition and various infrastructure construction of the Confucius Institute.
Finally, the delegation and faculty gathered in the conference room of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi. The delegation donated some hardcover books to the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, providing students of the Confucius Institute with better learning resources.
