EDUCATION DELEGATION VISIT TO CHINA

On the 17th of July, a delegation of key stakeholders in the education sector from Kenya visited the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation in China, courtesy of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi. Among the issues discussed during the visit were the promotion of Chinese language teaching and learning in Kenya, the establishment of a Chinese language teacher training programme at the University of Nairobi, the development and promotion of a globally recognised curriculum, the provision of scholarships and the support of learning resources.

Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education

On the morning of February 26, 2023, the "Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education" ​​kicked off in the lecture hall of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi. In order to promote the understanding of the Chinese proficiency grading standards in Africa, the University of Nairobi in Kenya was mandated by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation in China to organize an online workshop. More than 100 people participated in the event online and offline.

TEMPLE FAIR ACTIVITIES AND CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS AT CIUON

On January 19, 2023, to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Rabbit 2023 and to allow Kenyan students to experience the Spring Festival culture, the new center of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi was decorated, into a traditional Chinese temple fair theme. Numerous activities were prepared including pot throwing, ring games, calligraphy, and paper-cut cultural experience, as well as colorful performances, Chinese specialties, and New Year’s goods stalls, creating a joyful, peaceful, and lively New Year atmosphere.

SHANXI ONLINE ELEMENTARY CHINESE LEARNING PROGRAM

On November 6, 2022, the 9-day "Chinese Bridge" online group exchange program - "Online Shanxi" Elementary Chinese Learning Camp was successfully closed. Teachers and students of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi in Kenya and teachers and students of the State House  Girls High School attended the closing ceremony. Wang Hong, Vice Minister of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department of Taiyuan Normal University presided over the ceremony and made a concluding speech.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi co-hosts the Chinese Theater Festival

On November 28, 2022, the "Chinese Culture Day - Meet Chinese Drama" jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, the Kenya Cultural Center, and the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi was held at the Kenya National Theater at 17:00 local time. Counselor Zhou Meifen and Counselor Tang Jianjun of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, Mr. Micheal Pundo, CEO of the Kenya Cultural Center, Mr. Fed Oyagi, Director of the Kenya International Theater Festival, and professors and teachers from the Department of Humanities, University of Nairobi, were invited to attend the festival.
