The 21st Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students Kenya Division Preliminary Rounds

On June 24th, 2022, the 21st Chinese Bridge - Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students Kenya Division Preliminary Rounds was held at the University of Nairobi. A total of 15 contestants from four Confucius Institutes in Kenya participated in the competition.

 

THE DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL AT CIUON

On June 3rd, the fifth day of the fifth month lunar calendar, Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi successfully held a Dragon Boat Festival Cultural Function. The function included four parts: Dragon Boat Festival introduction and brief history, dragon boat painting, zongzi making and delicious zongzi tasting. The students had fun as they learned about Chinese culture and new Chinese language vocabularies. The activity attracted several media stations among them being the local Kenyan Television Network (KTN).

 

2022 UoN STUDENT JOB FAIR

On May 19th and 20th, the 2022 Job Fair for UoN Students was held at the main campus of the University of Nairobi. Nearly 2,000 students participated.

There were 22 enterprises in total that attended among them were small, medium and large-sized Chinese enterprises. There were also Kenyan enterprises which have business related with China. Around 200 positions related to engineering, architecture, law, media, design, travel, translation, logistics and other fields were provided.

CIUON FAST-LEARN CHINESE CHALLENGE

To celebrate the 13th UN Chinese Language Day, Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi (CIUON) held a Fast-learn Chinese challenge. Teachers and students of CIUON went to different campuses to interact with students randomly, teach simple Chinese, and record students' learning results. During the activities, students found that learning Chinese was not so difficult, and they were full of confidence and interest in learning Chinese. Many students inquired on the registration process for the courses with the intent to study Chinese in the future.

Chinese Culture Activities at the Kenya National Library

On April 8th, 2022, Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi (CIUON) was invited by the Kenya National Library to participate in the "Shining China" event. Twenty students and teachers from CIUON attended. A cultural booth was set up by CIUON teachers and students where guests and the audience  were invited to learn Chinese songs as well as to experience Chinese culture .

KITE WORKSHOP AT THE CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE UoN

On the afternoon of April 5th, 2022, Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi successfully held a "Kite Workshop" event where more than 20 participants attended. The activity was co-led by the Chinese director Prof. Wang Shangxue and local Chinese teacher Mr. Peter. Participants were introduced to the traditional Chinese festival "Qingming Festival" and the tradition of kite flying, kite culture and kite-making methods. Participants made kites on the spot and voted for the best kite of this activity.
